Kindergarten swimming
OI Swimming is proud to offer kindergarten swimming to kindergartens in Oslo. The club has for a longer period of time had a close cooperation with the Alna district when it comes to kindergarten swimming at Furuset Bad, and has recently partnered with nordre aker on swimming at Berg gård (near Ullevaal Stadium). We greatly appreciate our affiliates, who makes it possible for us to offer swimming lessons to as many kindergartens as possible. In addition to working with these districts, we also run intensive swimming lessons during school holidays and right before the summer holidays at Sogn Bad.
Why kindergarten swimming?
The ability to swim is incredibly important to safely be able to stay in and by the sea, beach and pool. If you are confident in the water and can get from one point to another, many drownings could be prevented. We believe that it is important to start as early as possible with swimming lessons, so that one becomes safe as quickly as possible.
The Norwegian Swimming Federation estimates that it takes roughly 50 hours to be fully able to swim. At the same time most 4th graders only recieve roughly 20 hours (or less) worth of swimming lessons in school. This makes the kindergarten swimming so much more important, as we can ensure that children acquire the necessary skills in water from the early age of 5-6 years old.
At kindergarten swimming we focus on making children safe in, under and near water. We focus a lot on diving, floating, kicking and propulsion, following the objectives from The Norwegian Swimming School. This gives children a good foundation for further development of swimming skills, all while getting acquainted with the various joys you can experience in the water
All kindergarten children who attend lessons organized by us is given a diploma after completing the final day, with a recommendation for the course that is best suited for each individual child.
It provides the guardians with all information about swimming lessons that are suited for your child to attend, if one wants to continue training in a swimming club that is part of the Norwegian Swimming Federation.

How are the lessons held?
We have chosen to offer two forms of swimming lessons for kindergarten children. The first is a course that is held over 10 weeks, with 30 minutes per lesson. These can also be done as two days a week over 5 weeks. This setup we use is in cooperation with and organized by Alna and Nordre Aker districts.
The second form is an intensive course that runs every day for a week, Monday through Friday. Here, too, the kids are in the water for 30 minutes at a time, but the outcome will be as high or even higher when you have the education covering a short amount of time . This setup is limited to Sogn bad during the school breaks and right before the summer holidays.
The child to teacher ratio is pretty large, as we have 4-5 children per adult in the water at all times. The daycare is responsible for escorting the children to and from the swimming pool, and sits on the edge to assist those children who need a break, a trip to the toilet, or in case some other scenarios arise
These things are provided by us:
- The Children get a swim cap with a logo, the very first day of lessons.
- A diploma for finishing the course, with recommendations for continued lessons
Does your kindergarten wish to participate in our lessons?
We have a form that will need to be filled out and submitted in order for us to contact you.
